Financial Controller

Our Client:

Reporting to the Head of Accounting, this autonomous position will be a challenging multi-faceted role requiring a person who can adapt and be flexible in managing their duties. It would be advantageous if you have experience working within a complex manufacturing organisation.

This role leads the financial activities for the company and the financial controls that keep them accurate and compliant. You’ll be central to delivering the financial reporting and strategic overview of our accounts and ensuring high-quality, timely reporting.

The Role:

• Preparing accurate financial statements including month-end reports for management, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. 
• Manage the month end management accounts process, ensuring group timelines are met and all balance sheet accounts are reconciled.
• Preparing monthly board reports for senior leadership team with commentary on business performance.
• Providing accurate financial reports to management.
• Develop, embed, and evidence robust financial policies, controls, processes, procedures, and supporting systems across the Finance function; train the team and promote best practice; recommend and lead implementation of system improvements.
• Drive effective time and workload management for yourself and direct reports to meet deadlines.
• Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting cycle: coordinate timelines, evidence assumptions, and facilitate reviews with senior management.
• Tracking, reporting, and analysing budget variances.
• Business partner with all departmental heads to understand costs and challenge variances to improve performance. 
• Recommending changes to improve financial performance.
• Day to day management of the purchase ledger and sales ledger clerks, ensuring that the ledgers are well maintained, customer accounts are kept within agreed terms and credit limits and suppliers are paid promptly to terms.
• Drive working capital improvements within the business, challenging inventory levels on both PFF sites.
• Review and authorise new supplier and customer account applications.
• Oversee payments and cashflow: review forecast assumptions, ensure debt obligations are met, advise on cash availability for distributions, and approve bank payments in line with approval matrices.
• Manage year-end audit, Vat, plastic tax, EPR, PAYE, P11D and corporate tax processes: lead and direct the thorough preparation for audit, liaise with external auditors and tax advisors, and ensure timely filings.
• Ensuring compliance with UK government regulations.
• Ensure payroll expectations are met with the business and liaise with Group payroll team to ensure accurateness.
• Provide coaching and support to the finance team to develop and improve performance.
• Any other financial ad hoc duties.

About You:

• Ability to always maintain confidentiality and integrity
• Proven experience of management monthly P&L reporting, cashflow management, budgeting/forecasting, and audit coordination in a fast-paced environment.
• Works with a continuous improvement mindset, and regularly reviews processes, procedures and controls with a critical eye to ensure they’re robust, efficient and effective
• Strong data handling and analysis skills with experience using systems to drive efficiency
• Strong leadership within finance teams with a coaching mindset and a collaborative style
• Strong Excel and computer skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, macros etc. an advantage)
• Clear, credible communicator with clients and colleagues, able to build trust and deliver to deadlines. Past experience of working with external shareholders would be advantageous.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Fluency with financial controls and policy frameworks; confident challenging assumptions and elevating reporting quality.
• Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines

• Having worked in a manufacturing environment previously would be essential.
• Professional qualification (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) or significant experience in a similar role.
